The Abomination of Desolation:

Matthew 24:15

When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:)

This is the verse that has caused a lot of debate; not only on what the Abomination of Desolation was, but where and when it was to take place. Jesus mentions Daniel referring to this so let’s look in Daniel. Daniel never mentions “Abomination of Desolation” but he does get close to the same wording.

Daniel 8:13

Then I heard one saint speaking, and another saint said unto that certain saint which spake, How long shall be the vision concerning the daily sacrifice, and the transgression of desolation, to give both the sanctuary and the host to be trodden under foot?

Here we have “the transgression of desolation” that is what Jesus was referring to when He said “the abomination of desolation” it doesn’t tell us what it is but it does give us a clue as to when people would be able to recognize the time. “the sanctuary and the host to be trodden under foot” The Sanctuary is the Temple and the Temple was in Jerusalem. The Sanctuary and the Host-Israelites would be trodden under foot.

Luke 21:24

And they shall fall by the edge of the sword, and shall be led away captive into all nations: and Jerusalem shall be trodden down of the Gentiles, until the times of the Gentiles be fulfilled.

Revelation 11:2

But the court which is without the temple leave out, and measure it not; for it is given unto the Gentiles: and the holy city shall they tread under foot forty and two months.

This verse correlates with the last 2; in 2 different ways. #1) this mentions the outside court of the Temple and the Holy City (Jerusalem) being trodden down; which, with the motto of “Scripture interprets, correlates, matches, confirms and explains scripture” it appears to be and is in fact, a perfect match.

The 2nd correlation that ties this verse in Revelation to these other verses in this: Which Temple is John being told to measure here? The Temple in Jerusalem that both Daniel and Jesus prophesied would be trodden down and destroyed and which was destroyed in 70AD by the Roman armies under the command of Titus. This provides iron clad proof that Revelation was written prior to 70 AD because it clearly shows the Temple being trodden down and destroyed but hadn’t been yet. Can John measure a Temple after it is destroyed?

Daniel 9:27

And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.

Daniel 11:36

And the king shall do according to his will; and he shall exalt himself, and magnify himself above every god, and shall speak marvelous things against the God of gods, and shall prosper till the indignation be accomplished: for that that is determined shall be done.

These last 2 verses show another example of scripture interpreting scripture of something that was to happen at the same time, meaning they mirror one another.

even until the consummation & till the indignation be accomplished

that determined shall be poured upon the desolate & for that that is determined shall be done

Exact matches!

2nd Thessalonians 2:4

Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.

This verse; is also a direct match to Daniel 11:36 in that it speaks of someone who opposes and exalts himself above God and all that is called God. These also speak of what is generally accepted to be what this abomination of desolation was; I don’t believe this was but if it was or not is not of extreme importance, the time this happened is what is important.

Daniel 11:31

And arms shall stand on his part, and they shall pollute the sanctuary of strength, and shall take away the daily sacrifice, and they shall place the abomination that maketh desolate.

Daniel 12:11

And from the time that the daily sacrifice shall be taken away, and the abomination that maketh desolate set up, there shall be a thousand two hundred and ninety days.

This daily sacrifice was not the sacrifice of the Jews in the Temple but was in fact; the daily sacrifice the Jews made to the Emperor of Rome. They stopped this due to Roman injustices and several instances of Roman Soldiers defiling the Temple and Altar. Once this Roman sacrifice in the Temple was stopped, this began the Jewish revolt of 66 that ran off and on until 70 (3 ½ years almost matching perfectly the “thousand two hundred and ninety days” when the Temple was destroyed just as Jesus predicted in Matthew 24:2 “And Jesus said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down

So; when was this Abomination of Desolation to occur? Matthew 24 begins the Olivet Discourse and in it, Jesus says YE, YOU & YOUR 23 times to the 4 Apostles sitting with Him on the Mount of Olives in a private teaching. When Jesus said YE, YOU & YOUR, He was speaking to them of things that some of them would live to see and those of His/their generation would witness, culminating with the destruction of Jerusalem, The Temple and the entire House of Israel.

Luke 19:43-44

For the days shall come upon thee, that thine enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side, And shall lay thee even with the ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation.

Matthew 24:15

When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand:)

Mark 13:14

But when ye shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, standing where it ought not, (let him that readeth understand,) then let them that be in Judaea flee to the mountains:

Luke 21:20

#1) And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, #2)  then know that the desolation thereof is nigh

Here; Luke mentions Jesus speaking of a day when Jerusalem would be compassed-encircled by armies. This was also spoken of by Jesus earlier in Luke 19:43 “For the days shall come upon thee, that thine enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side” and John mentions this as well in Revelation 20:9 “And they went up on the breadth of the earth, and compassed the camp of the saints about, and the beloved city: and fire came down from God out of heaven, and devoured them

All of these things did happen; and the entire New Testament was written prior to and foretelling of  the destruction of National Israel; Culture, tradition, Religion and the enemies of God that took place in the first century.
